Our Approach

Our environmental management approach involves consulting experts for precise identification and assessment of environmental factors throughout our entire operations. This includes proper environmental analysis and management from exploration, to development, construction, instalment, commissioning and operation stages. We also account for any environmental concerns raised by the community, public and stakeholders.

Our priority is to avoid any activity that would have a negative effect on the environment. However, where it is not possible to do so, we aim to minimise environmental impacts via effective management plans. Our environmental impact avoidance strategy includes the following:

Avoid exploring resources adjacent to or within the boundaries of World Heritage-listed properties, unless the proposed activity is compatible with World Heritage values.

Avoid exploring resources adjacent to or within the boundaries of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) protected areas categories I to IV, unless implemented via a plan that meets regulatory requirements.

Avoid any activities that would advocate the extinction of IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.

Avoid any activity that is prohibited by the state and Commonwealth governments under the Environmental Protection Act 1986 (WA) and the Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 and associated regulations.

Avoid any activity that would potentially impact the environment, unless consulted by an environmental expert or company, and provide a comprehensive environmental management plan that considers all necessary measures.

The project is designed to be water efficient. A dewatering plant will be constructed at Geraldton Port for dewatering the product and re-using the recycled water at the processing plant. In addition, through FST as its shareholder, FIJV has knowledge of innovative engineering design methods for efficient water use in iron ore concentrate plants. FIJV will use these methods for ensuring efficient water use in its projects.

We believe that nature and the environment belong to all people and should be available for future generations. Our company highly values the environment and prioritises its protection over production. Environmental protection is a fundamental principle within FIJV and its shareholders, and we take pride in our environmental code of ethics.
